wisps of cloud ......

sit high in the powder blue sky as I ponder the day ahead. A walk with Lola is always the first step of the day and leads me meandering across the hills soaking in the colours and smells of hot Summer days. How can you share all these things that fill your soul and warm the cockles of your heart ? I took my camera yesterday so follow me,  step this way, wellies not required as the grass is dry and the paths not muddy....

Lola  where have you been oh I see there were rabbits in the hedge and now you are hot......but we still have far to go..

Its over the golden hill and down the other side , through the wood and across the hay filled field before......
splash the cool shallow ripples of a stream cool a furry body and I confess some warm feet .....before home for a morsel of food whence the studio beckons.....

where notions of wind in the sails and time ticking slowly, tea to be drank fill the warm air. Things are piled high around me as a bijou space is all there is but its filled with inspiration and stories half told...bits of things yet to be created or that just remain as a remnant of something not quite known..... until another day begins a walk taken, a memory jogged and who knows what will unfold!

a swallow swoops and flutters....

across a dappled grey sky this early Sunday morn. A day for household chores and gardening as blooms need staking  deadheads need removing, cakes need baking for the week ahead. Lola has been taken for her morning ramble and I am left to don working skirt and pinny  to commence the day. First I thought you may enjoy a rummage through some photo's a look at close ups and details, ceramics embossed with detail layered up with washes of slip and oxides. I love nothing more than creating a painterly style of pattern, a hint at this and that, a nod to all the domestic kitchenalia I so love. Objects that once were everyday have since become our modern day treasures, jelly moulds, stripey jugs, edges of tea towels. I revel in the white ceramics now crazed glazes that have absorbed colour and stain , this worn look tells of hard times in the hands of many people and kitchens, cakes baked, puddings made it lives still to tell its tale.  Textiles to enhance and complete the story adding the finishing touches, patched and worn it feels comfortable and  reassuring, colours muted and faded, a bit of careful stitching and darning to enhance its life just a wee bit more.  My gardening skirt is a pale golden yellow now with extra detail on its hem line once discarded is now treasured and enjoying life for another season........

wisps of cloud drift across a clear.....

blue sky this early morning. The last few weeks have been hectic with work going to Porthminster Gallery for their Summer Showcase and then Connections at Cupola Gallery Sheffield. A window display  takes thought and work to ensure the right feel for the occasion. The Tour de France came to Yorkshire and so a celebratory feel was required. Villages fete's and Well Dressing events take place up and down the country  in Summer so  that set the tempo and mood. Bunting was made using swatches of scraps  was it bunting or flags  one was left to ponder. A podium for the winner and a champions cup. A chandalier of lampshades stitched and sewn meant the celebrations could go on till late! Squirrel watching closely from the corner whilst Empire bird offered rides in her truck. Chickens flapping everywhere fearful of being sold, a picket fence kept the crowds at bay and the ducks safe and sound.............
