a swallow swoops and flutters....
across a dappled grey sky this early Sunday morn. A day for household
chores and gardening as blooms need staking deadheads need removing,
cakes need baking for the week ahead. Lola has been taken for her
morning ramble and I am left to don working skirt and pinny to commence
the day. First I thought you may enjoy a rummage through some photo's a
look at close ups and details, ceramics embossed with detail layered up
with washes of slip and oxides. I love nothing more than creating a
painterly style of pattern, a hint at this and that, a nod to all the
domestic kitchenalia I so love. Objects that once were everyday have
since become our modern day treasures, jelly moulds, stripey jugs,
edges of tea towels. I revel in the white ceramics now crazed glazes
that have absorbed colour and stain , this worn look tells of hard times
in the hands of many people and kitchens, cakes baked, puddings made
it lives still to tell its tale. Textiles to enhance and complete the
story adding the finishing touches, patched and worn it feels
comfortable and reassuring, colours muted and faded, a bit of careful
stitching and darning to enhance its life just a wee bit more. My
gardening skirt is a pale golden yellow now with extra detail on its hem
line once discarded is now treasured and enjoying life for another
season........
I'm always happy when I see a post from you pop up in my reader. Even though I've only just 'discovered' you, I know I'm in for a treat! Your work is so unique and totally fun.
ReplyDeleteHello Magpie I am delighted you enjoy my ramblings !!
DeleteLove that delightful apron piece!!
ReplyDeleteHi liniecat,
DeleteThank you, the apron was a junk market find, I know a lady who sources all sorts of textiles pieces and this is actually a dolls apron. I did an exhibition in Wales at a little gallery run by the lovely Claire and I created a series of pieces to illustrate what inspires me ... a sort of cabinet of curiosities.
You are a master of Details...in your words, and art:)
ReplyDeletethank you so much Hastypearl.. I am really pleased you liked it.
